About Dr. McKay

Who I Am

I was born and raised in Southeast Alaska and have lived in and visited many parts of the state. I am passionate about serving the unique needs of Alaskans and those facing the challenges of life in our beautiful, remote communities. I completed all of my training through the University of Alaska system — from my Bachelor’s in Social Work through my PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology.

Experience

I have worked across a wide range of outpatient settings — from community mental health in Anchorage and Fairbanks to inpatient substance use treatment in Sitka. This breadth of experience gives me a deep understanding of the complexities of the human experience.

Approach

My practice is grounded in evidence-based approaches with attention to cultural, social, familial, and relational influences. Much of my work centers on the impact of trauma. I encourage clients to feel deeply and acknowledge their experiences — so we can find a path through them together.

Healing

Healing the soul is deep work. Many of the people I work with carry deep and painful wounds. Understanding how our past shapes our present is a challenging — and often time-consuming — undertaking. Together, we will develop self-awareness, self-compassion, and acceptance for your unique journey.
